Indi Stivín

Indi Stivín is a double bassist, conductor and composer.  Born in Prague into a musical family. He began with music at very early age, he started with piano and violin. When he was 9 he fell in love with double bass and started to write his own compositions. He also devotes himself to conducting.
 

Indi made his solo debut performance at the age of 12 with Domenico Dragonetti's Concerto for double bass and orchestra. Since then he has performed with numerous orchestras including Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovak State Philharmonic Košice, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, South Czech Philharmonic etc.
 

At the age of fifteen he became the youngest prizewinner in the history of the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen 2017, Germany. In 2018 he made his solo debut performance at the Prague Spring International Music Festival with his solo recital.

 

As the only double bassist he became a finalist of the Eurovision Young Musicians 2018 and his own composition "Bohemian Suite" was performed by BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with their chief conductor Thomas Dausgaard at the Edinburgh International Festival.

In 2020 he received the "OSA Award" for the best classical music composer under the age of 30.

He studied with Dalibor Tkadlčík, the Principal Double Bassist of State Opera Prague, prof. Ján Krigovský from MUK Vienna and prof. Jiří Hudec at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He took masterclasses with Thomas Martin (UK), Miloslav Jelínek (CZ), Zsolt Fejervári (HU) and Roman Patkolo (SK). In 2015 he studied solo double bass playing with Gary Karr (USA).

Indi Stivín is founder and artistic director of Collegium Stivinum Chamber Orchestra.
