Indi Stivín

Indi Stivín is a solo double bassist, conductor, and composer. He has won many international music competitions and is considered one of the leading artist of his generation. In 2017, he became the youngest prizewinner in the history of the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen, Germany. A year later, he was the only double bassist to reach the finals of Eurovision Young Musicians in the United Kingdom. In 2020, he received the OSA Annual Award as the most successful Czech composer under the age of 30.

 

As a soloist, he has performed with many orchestras, including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Janáček Philharmonic, Slovak State Philharmonic Košice, Czech Chamber Philharmonic Pardubice, Moravian Philharmonic, South Czech Philharmonic, Barocco sempre giovane, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, and others. He has worked with renowned conductors such as Thomas Dausgaard, Heiko Mathias Förster, Robert Kružík, and Vojtěch Spurný.

 

He has appeared as a soloist at major festivals, including the Prague Spring International Music Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Janáček Festival in Ostrava, Lednice Valtice Music Festival, Dvořák Festival in Příbram, The International Music Festival of F. L. Věk, Viva Musica! in Bratislava, and Czech Chamber Music Society, among others.

 

Born in 2001 in Prague, he studied double bass with Dalibor Tkadlčík, Ján Krigovský, and Jiří Hudec. He also studied violin with Jaroslav Foltýn at the Prague Conservatory and was a member of the Giuseppe Sinopoli Academy of the Staatskapelle Dresden. Currently, he is studying orchestral conducting with Leoš Svárovský at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

 

In 2019, he founded the Collegium Stivinum chamber orchestra, where he holds the position of chief conductor and soloist in residence.
